What is Salafiyah?
Salafiyah is the methodology of following the path of the Salaf (السلف الصالح) - the righteous predecessors. This includes the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, his Companions (رضي الله عنهم), and the early generations of Muslims who followed them in righteousness.

Salaf (السلف)
السلف الصالحThe righteous predecessors - the first three generations of Muslims: the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, their students, and the students of their students.
Salafiyah (السلفية)
المنهج السلفيThe methodology of following the path of the Salaf - understanding and practicing Islam as the early generations did.
Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah
أهل السنة والجماعةThe people of the Sunnah and the community - those who follow the authentic teachings of the Prophet ﷺ and maintain unity.
Bid'ah (بدعة)
البدعةInnovation in religion - introducing new practices or beliefs that were not present during the time of the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions.
Tawhid (التوحيد)

1st Generation (الصحابة)

1. Following the Quran
The Quran is the primary source of guidance. Salafiyah emphasizes understanding and implementing the Quran as it was understood by the early generations of Muslims.
2. Following the Sunnah
The Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ is the second source of guidance. This includes his teachings, actions, and approvals as recorded in authentic hadith.
3. Following the Salaf
Understanding and practicing Islam as the righteous predecessors did. They are the best examples of how to implement the Quran and Sunnah.
4. Avoiding Innovations
Staying away from religious innovations (bid'ah) that were not practiced by the Prophet ﷺ or his Companions. This includes both beliefs and practices.
5. Unity and Brotherhood
Promoting unity among Muslims based on authentic Islamic teachings. Salafiyah emphasizes coming together on the truth rather than division.

Seeking knowledge from reliable sources and scholars who follow the methodology of the Salaf. This ensures correct understanding and practice.

Common Misconceptions About Salafiyah
❌ "Salafiyah is a new sect"
✅ Truth: Salafiyah is not a new sect or group. It is the methodology of following the Quran and Sunnah as understood by the early generations of Muslims. It is the original Islam practiced by the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions.
❌ "Salafis are extremists"
✅ Truth: True Salafiyah promotes moderation, balance, and following the middle path. It emphasizes kindness, mercy, and proper conduct in all matters.
❌ "Salafis don't care about others"
✅ Truth: Salafiyah emphasizes good character, helping others, and being beneficial to society. The Prophet ﷺ was sent as a mercy to all creation.
❌ "Salafiyah is only about appearance"
✅ Truth: Salafiyah is about following the complete methodology of the Salaf, including beliefs, worship, character, and dealings with others. Appearance is just one aspect.
How to Apply Salafiyah in Daily Life
In Worship (Ibadah)
- Pray as the Prophet ﷺ prayed, following authentic hadith
- Learn the correct way to perform all acts of worship
- Avoid innovations in worship
- Seek knowledge about the rulings of worship
In Character (Akhlaq)
- Follow the excellent character of the Prophet ﷺ
