Introduction
This post begins our journey through The Three Fundamental Principles by Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahab. Each post will cover one chapter, starting with the first principle: Knowing your Lord.
Chapter 1: Who is Your Lord?
The Question in the Grave
The first question every soul will be asked in the grave is: Who is your Lord?
The Answer
- My Lord is Allah, Who nurtured me and all creation by His favors. He is my deity; I worship none but Him.
Explanation
- Allah is the Creator, Sustainer, and the only One worthy of worship.
- Recognizing Allah’s Lordship (Rububiyyah) means believing He alone creates, provides, gives life and death, and controls all affairs.
- This knowledge leads to worshipping Allah alone (Uluhiyyah) and affirming His Names and Attributes (Asma wa Sifat) as described in the Quran and Sunnah.
Quranic Evidence
“All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.” (Quran 1:2)
“Your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne.” (Quran 7:54)
Key Lessons
- Knowing your Lord is the foundation of faith.
- True knowledge of Allah leads to sincere worship and reliance upon Him alone.
- This principle is the first step to success in this life and the Hereafter.
